Copenhagen

Copenhagen

A real travel highlight from 2016 was visiting Copenhagen. I was lucky enough to celebrate my Birthday there with Matt and also his cousin Lisa, who was visiting from the States. I loved it! Its such an interesting city with lots to see and do, and an awesome food scene. We went in May and were lucky to have amazing weather too.

When we looked at booking accommodation hotels were really pricey, so we opted for an Airbnb. It was perfect - right in the centre and of course the Danes have the best home style.

Jaegersborggade

We headed here on our first morning for a wander and some brunch. It's a great street with cool shops and cafes. We have a bit of a cacti obsession in our home so had to visit Kaktus Kobenhavn, followed by Coffee Collective for a caffeine fix.

Amass Restaurant

Matt booked this restaurant as a surprise for my birthday. He did try to book Noma, but unless you're super organised and book months ahead then its impossible to get a table! However it didn't matter as Amass was an amazing experience. Its in an industrial warehouse setting with beautiful views of the gardens and river. We did the tasting menu and the courses just kept coming! The food is mostly really simple ingredients grown in their own gardens, with the menu constantly changing. The Chef and owner Matt Orlando previously worked at Noma, and he was a really friendly guy and kindly gave us a little tour of the kitchen at the end. The staff and ambience was just really welcoming and relaxed, so refreshing for a high end restaurant.

Meatpacking District

This area is such a great option in the evening, and has street food stalls at the weekend. These former meatpacking warehouses are now a wide selection of restaurants and bars, giving lots of options. We chose Kodbyens Fiskebar, specialising in seafood and it really did not disappoint. We had a variety of plates to share including oysters, scallops, salmon, and crab and they were all amazing!

Papiroen - Street Food

It's really easy to get around Copenhagen, they have bikes you can pick up all round the city. We rode along the river and made our way over to Papiroen, a large street food market within a warehouse on its own little island. It was packed when we went as was such a lovely day and theres lots of street food options to choose from.

Torvehallerne

Another food market! This one is more gourmet and is a good place to have a wander and try some Smorrebrod - Danish open sandwiches, so many tasty toppings to choose from.

Just a snapshot of the gorgeous Copenhagen and I would definitely love to go back :)
