US Road Trip - Dallas
Matts a big wrestling fan – we’re talking WWE, John Cena, big guys throwing themselves off steel cages type stuff. His dream has always been to go to their biggest event – Wrestlemania, so in April this year we found ourselves in Dallas at the start of a 2 week road trip through Texas and Louisiana.
Dallas had never been up there on my list of must go places, however if you do find yourselves in the city that ‘Who shot JR?’ made famous then there are definitely some cool places to check out:
The Joule Hotel
So if you can afford the hefty price tag, then stay here. Dallas city centre doesn’t have all that much in the way of trendy places. But this hotel has the lot, great coffee shop – Weekend, a concept and lifestyle shop – TENOVERSIX I picked up some awesome illesteva sunglasses from here. Also for food – CBD provisions is great for brunch and Americano has a little terrace serving Italian and great cocktails. Basically we spent a lot of time here!

Street Food
Head to Klyde Warren Park where there are food trucks lining the street feeding the lunch crowd. We had some yummy Vietnamese noodle bowls, but it was hard to choose from all the options!
Filament
Deep Ellum is where you need to head in the eve. This former warehouse district has a great vibe with live music venues, and craft beer bars. I can particularly recommend Filament restaurant, the food here was so good and a great way to try modern interpretations of Southern food. Decor was spot on too.

Wolfgang Puck’s Five Sixty
So if you want to push the boat out this is where you go. The Reunion Tower is one of the main landmarks on the Dallas skyline with its big light up ball on top. This is where Five Sixty can be found, a revolving restaurant with some of the best views over the city. The menu is Asian inspired and very good, if you can then definitely go for the tasting menu to try all the highlights.
Katy Trail Ice House
This was a real find, but it’s certainly well known to the locals. The Katy Trail, was once a railroad running through Texas, and seems to be where everyone in Dallas comes to workout. The Ice House has a great outdoor patio where you can order beer or cider in very large icy goblets, perfect for the Texas heat. Also serving tasty looking burgers.
Forty Five Ten
There’s lots of neighbourhoods to go and explore outside the centre and this is where we came across this beautiful shop. Full of high-end fashion and accessories – its more of a browse than buy situation, but does have a lovely little cafe. It’s definitely where Dallas fashiony types come to be seen.
Whataburger
Hitting the road, as in most of the US there are fast food places a-go-go lining all the highways. California may have In-and-Out burger but Texas has Whataburger and is definitely worth a stop off. ‘Home of the bigger and better burger’ it definitely lives up to the tagline.
